Van Gogh was a crazy genius

He really was. We went to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam this weekend and Luke and Lydia experienced the children's audio tour. It was very interesting hearing the "kid" version of old Vincent's life. It was also very interesting learning the actual (whatever that means) story of Vince. New thing I learned #1: he only painted for 10 years, and did most of his really famous stuff in the last two years. #2: The ear incident was because he had a big fight with his "friend" Paul Gauguin -- the hooker was just holding the ear piece for him, as a favor. It wasn't actually for her. #3: Vincent's brother Theo died three years after Vincent off-ed himself. Of syphilis. And a broken heart. They were 37 (V) and 34 (T) when they died.

Really, it's a very tragic and fascinating story. And the art ain't that bad either. Here's our favorite; of course it looks so much better in person -- I'm being facetious but also serious:

I loved the Van Gogh museum - of course I was also really "museumed out" from Paris, so it was nice how small it was!
